Social Programme London theatre trips in August

SGI English school is a whole lot more than just English lessons!

Yes, we have excellent lessons (as rated by the UK government), but we also really try to make sure that every single student has an incredible time in London. We want people to come back for more (obviously) and also remember their London language holiday for the rest of their lives.

After the majority of English classes have finished every day, we have a social activity for the students to go on to see the best bits of London. Once a week, we go to see one of the top shows in London’s theatre land. The big bonus though is that our social programme organiser has a great deal with all the theatres, so that we can get super discounted tickets for the best seats in the house.

Read the amazing prices below and WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW to get a taste of the shows that the SGI students will be seeing in August

Thu 30 Jul, 7.45pm –  Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

It’s the Wild West in America in this classic Hollywood where men are real men and there aren’t enough women! A critic in Musical review Magazine gave it 5 out of 5 stars and said that they “laughed until my face ached”. It’s at the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park –  they do one musical every summer, to superbly high standards, and it’s a magical experience when the weather’s good – and it’s predicted to be 22 degrees and bright and dry on Thursday! Full of great singing and dancing, best tickets would normally be £50 but for SGI students it’s just £20!

Fri 7 Aug, 7.30pm –  As You Like It, at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

Come and see one of Shakespeare’s most enjoyable plays –  ‘As You Like It’ at the Globe Theatre, a classic comedy about love and romance.  Performed in a replica of Shakespeare’s original theatre with beautiful traditional costumes and brilliant comic acting!  We’ll be standing up, directly in front of the stage –  and the tickets are just £5 if you are with the SGI Social Programme!

Thu 13 Aug, 7.30pm –  The Commitments

You might remember the classic 1990s film The Commitments –  it’s now a brilliant new stage musical!  It’s about a group of young people in Dublin –  they’re poor, they’re desperate but they decide they’re going to become the hottest soul group Ireland has ever produced.  It’s great fun, full of Irish spirit and energy, and features loads of classic soul songs such as ‘Papa Was a Rolling Stone’, ‘In the Midnight Hour’ and ‘Mustang Sally’.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll dance your way out of the theatre at the end!  Tickets would normally be £65 but SGI students only pay £26.

Thu 20 Aug, 7.30pm –  Lord of the Dance

The Irish Riverdance is the most amazing style of dancing where the upper body remains completely still but the legs do all the work –  you’ll be thrilled to see a line of 40 dancers all performing in perfect harmony!  The story uses Irish legends, telling beautiful traditional Celtic tales.  This is a great opportunity to see some of the most stunning dancing from the greatest Irish dancers!  Tickets would normally be £65 but SGI Social programme people get the discounted ticket price of £26.

Thu 27 Aug, 7.30pm –  The Play That Goes Wrong

A local drama club are putting on a 1920’s murder mystery play but everything that can go wrong does go wrong –  the actors forget their lines, fight with each other, the scenery collapses, total disaster happens!  And it’s hilariously funny to watch.  You will cry with laughter at all the terrible things happening on the stage!  Tickets would normally be £52 but if you are studying at SGI London you can go for just £20.
