Well, UK Sports news is quite packed this weekend! There are always tons of events going on in and around London, but this weekend contains some of the biggest events in the sporting calendar. These events are an excellent way to learn English in 5 minutes as I explained in this post earlier this week. First and foremost we have the height of Britishness…
Wimbledon tennis
The strawberries and cream with a few glasses of champagne will be heavily consumed this weekend as London hosts the Wimbledon Championships Finals on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, the Brit Andy Murray is out (perhaps that means that we will call him Scottish now! 🙂 However, there will still be some glorious tennis on offer at the world’s most important tennis grand slam event.
Tour de France 2014
The greatest cycling race in the world starts in England this year. It begins on Saturday in Leeds, then runs down the UK for the next 3 days, ending with a stage from Cambridge to London on Monday before everyone jumps across the channel to enter France. Some of the SGI students will be stepping outside the school to catch this moment of sporting history on their smartphones, no doubt. Good luck to the Brit, Mark Cavendish who will be looking for some sprint victories in his homeland in the first few days of Le Tour.
British Grand Prix
Silverstone is hosting this year’s Formula One British Grand Prix. Of course, the partisan home crowd will accept no less than a British winner. Surely, that has to be Lewis Hamilton in his German Mercedes 🙂 If you love sport, then make sure you check out our How to speak English for the World Cup videos As you can see, if you are not here in London, you are missing out! Last week there was Glastonbury festival in the west of the UK. Tonight there is Black Sabbath in Hyde Park. Join us at summer school in July and August, have a summer you’ll never ever forget, taking home memories that will last a lifetime. We are calling it SGI’s Summer forever
