It's lovely, sunny and warm, so we expect to see lots of students on the social programme this week.

Whatever you like doing, there's something for you this week with :

  • Coffee
  • Chat
  • Gourmet food
  • Go-karting
  • Theatre trip to see ABBA musical
  • Guided walk under the bridges of London
  • Clubbing
  • Day trip outside the capital to historic Cambridge

Monday 18th May: Welcome Party

Monday is your chance to get to know other students from other English courses. An SGI teacher will host the event and it's a nice, free way to keep on chatting in English in a relaxed social situation where the conversation can cover any topic!

Meet in school classroom LG7 at 3:45pm

Tuesday 19th May: Borough Market

A trip to London's 'foodie' market. Try out the free samples of truly excellent food in this market which has been on the same spot since the 13th Century! Your taste buds will be going bananas (that means 'going crazy') as you wander around and take in the feast for your eyes and your belly!

Meet outside the front of the school at 3:45pm

Wednesday 20th May: Go-Karting

It's Monaco F1 this weekend and to put us in the mood, we will be going go-karting! Revolutions Karting in the east of London is the fastest go-karting track in London, so you can really put your foot down, feel the need for speed and pretend that you are Lewis Hamilton… not to be missed! This is for the adrenaline junkies!

Meet at the school front door at 4pm

Thursday 21st May: Guided Walk (with teacher, Owen)

Owen, the resident professional tour guide and teacher at SGI, and his dog Jess, will take you a walking tour alongside The River Thames. You will see lots of the iconic buildings of the famous London skyline including Tate Modern, Tower Bridge, Shakespeare's Globe theatre, St Paul's Cathedral, The Shard and many more. Owen will keep you entertained with lots of super interesting facts about the history of London along the way

Meet Owen and his dog, Jess outside the school at 3:30pm

Thursday 21st May (Part 2): Theatre trip – MAMMA MIA

ABBA were one of the most successful groups of all time and so was the movie and this musical, Mamma Mia. Sing a long to all the famous hits and get up and dance. This is always a great show at The Novello Theatre in London's West End and it's one of the most popular musicals for the SGI students, so book early by putting your name down on the list at reception.

The standard ticket price is £65 or higher, which is very expensive, but SGI students on the social programme only pay £26 for a ticket!!!

Meet teacher, Owen outside the school at 6:30pm

Friday 22nd May: The Social Bar & Tiger Tiger

The Social is a great little bar just 3 minutes walk from the school in Little Wigmore Street. It's run by a record company, so the music is always great. Our student representatives will take you there and make sure that you chat in English, even though lessons have finished for the week. 🙂 Later on you can go to Tiger Tiger Club in the centre of London for cocktails and clubbing to the small hours.

You must be 18 for these events and bring official I.D, with you to prove your age. Ask at reception for more details on these events.

Saturday 23rd May: Day trip to Cambridge

A trip outside of London to see one of the most famous university towns in the whole world, Cambridge. You can stroll around to see the university colleges, go punting on the river (Punting is the verb which describes how to make a gondola/punt move on the river) and have an ice-cream in this beautiful city.

Ask at reception for more details about this day trip to one of the UK's most beautiful cities.
