There is a new teacher organiser of the SGI London Student Social Programme now.
Vanessa is the teacher in charge of organising all the student events from now on. She started her new role by asking the SGI students what kind of new things they would like to do around London.
One of the most popular answers was ‘more food’! 🙂
Another was ‘more dancing’.
So, this week, guess what? There will be more dancing and food… and it’s all new.
Check out the new social programme events below and make sure you come along after English lessons finish for the day, so that you really get the most out of your study trip to London. You can sleep when you get back home! 🙂
Mon 9th March: Meet & Greet (with Ben)
An old social programme classic and a real student favourite to start off the week. New and not-so-new students meet up at The Word Cafe right next door to the school for some English chat with coffee, cakes and biscuits!
Meet teacher, Ben outside the school at 3.10pm
Tues 10th March: Bar Salsa! (with James)
Have you ever tried ‘Bachata’? No?
Then join teacher, James at ‘Bar Salsa!’ to try out this South American food and don’t worry about the calories, because after you have eaten the salsa dance class starts at 7:30pm with a top dance teacher.
Meet teacher, James outside the school at 6pm
Wednesday 4th March: Soho and Theatreland Guided Walk (with Owen)
It wouldn’t be a proper SGI Student Social Programme week without a guided walk from Owen and his doggie, Jess. This week it is the popular Soho walk, through London’s world-famous theatre land, going through Trafalgar Square under Nelson’s Column and finishing up at the Houses of Parliament and the iconic London landmark of Big Ben.
Meet teacher, Owen (and his little dog, Jess) outside the school at 3:15pm
Wednesday 4th March (Part 2): Champion’s League Chelsea v PSG
Go to one of London’s top sports bars with loads of TVs to eat, drink and watch the ‘beautiful game’, this week starring one of London’s top teams: Chelsea.
Meet Diego outside Leicester Square Underground Station at 6pm
Thurs 5th March: Musical Theatre trip – Wicked (with Owen)
We all know the story of the Wizard of Oz, but what about the wicked witch? What made her so evil. ‘Wicked’ is the prequel stort of the Witch’s life and is one of the most successful musicals of all time.
The normal ticket price is £65. SGI students only pay £20 for a ticket!!! That is incredible for a top trip to one of London’s best musicals.
To find out about more SGI Social Programme Musical trips in 2015, see the video here.
Meet Owen outside the school at 6:30pm
Friday 13th March: The Social (with Diego, Clara and Alex)
The Social is a cool little bar/club only 5 minutes walk from the school. It’s just a small doorway, but 2 floors of funk and soul on the inside. Fridays are always busy there, so it will be a great atmosphere to relax after a busy week for students.
Meet Clara and the boys at the school door at 6pm
Friday 13th March (Part 2): Cafe de Paris club night with Lost in London
Tickets at reception (before Friday): £7 (or pay £10 on the night)
Cafe De Paris is right in the heart of the West End. the nearest tube is Piccadily, Leicester Square or Charing Cross – that tells you how central this club is, doesn’t it? The interior decoration is very special – you will not have seen anything like this before in your hometown or city.
Doors are from 10:30pm to 3:00am.
You have to be 18, show up early-ish and you MUST have ID. Definitely no trainers allowed.
Saturday 14th March: Sea Life Centre (with Clara)
Over 500 species of marine animals and 2 million litres of water… and yes, there are sharks! 🙂
If you want to go to the famous London Aquarium you must put your name on the list at reception and pay the entrance fee before Wednesday at 3pm.
