Amazing Social Programme for students at SGI English School

Vanessa, the new teacher organiser of the SGI London Student Social Programme is really kicking a**.

There are only 5 days in the working week from Monday to Friday, but there are no less than NINE events for the students at SGI English School this week in London. Unbelievable!

Plus, we have the super event of the SGI Annual Students’ Pub Quiz. This is a night you definitely do not want to miss…. even lots of the old SGI teachers are coming back for this not-to-be-missed night.  🙂

Check out the new social programme events below and make sure you come along after English lessons finish for the day, so that you really get the most out of your study trip to London. You can sleep when you get back home!  🙂

Mon 16th March: Meet & Greet with Ben – Part 1

An old social programme classic and a real student favourite to start off the week. All students who want to practise their English for free meet up at The Word Cafe right next door to the school with popular teacher, Ben for coffee, cakes and biscuits!

Mon 16th March: Meet & Greet – Part 2!

If you were still in an afternoon class for the first part of the meet and greet event, or if you just want to carry on speaking English, the chat continues at The Champion Pub (very close to the school).

One of our special student representatives will meet you at Word Cafe 4.45pm

Tues 17th March: Event 1 – 2000 Years of London History

Qualified London Tour Guide and SGI Teacher, Owen will take you from St Paul’s and into the historic heart of the old city. Owen is respected and loved for his in-depth knowledge of everything to do with London. His little doggy, Jess who goes with him on every walk is not so knowledgeable, but still very sweet.  🙂

Tues 17th March: Event 2 – SGI Annual Pub Quiz

How good is your knowledge of the UK, culture, sport, music, flags of the world etc?

They will all be put to the test at The King and Queen Pub (just over 5 minutes walk from the school) in the annual SGI Pub Quiz. Pub quizzes happen all over the country every week and it’s a real part of British culture. The SGI Pub Quiz questions though are created for the international student audience, so you will know lots of the answers. But there will also be 1 or 2 tricky answers for the brainiest students to work out. 🙂 

There will be some FREE drinks and snacks for the SGI students.

Special Bonus: As this is a real fun night, lots of the old SGI teachers from previous years will be showing up, because nobody wants to miss this event!  🙂

Wednesday 18th March: Ten Pin Bowling with Louis

Are you good at Ten Pin Bowling? Don’t worry, neither are we! 🙂

But the bowling social programme events are always great fun and therefore very popular. This event costs ÂŁ6.95 and if you want to go, you MUST put your name down on the list at school reception and pay as soon as possible and definitely before the end of Tuesday.

Thursday 19th March: Les Miserable – London Musical trip

One of the most successful musicals of all time!  The title is French but the words are in English!  

Forget about the recent movie –  now you can see the original! It’s the ultimate romantic musical.  Tickets would normally be ÂŁ65 each SGI students pay just ÂŁ25 for an excellent seat and a night to remember forever in London’s theatreland!​

Put your name on the list at reception asap to guarantee a ticket.

Friday 20th March (PART 1): The Social (with Student Representatives)

The Social is a cool little bar/club only 5 minutes walk from the school. It’s just a small doorway, but 2 floors of funk and soul on the inside. Fridays are always busy there, so it’s really rocking, but you need your I.D. to get in.

Friday 20th March (Part 2): Ministry of Sound

Tickets at reception (before Friday): £8 (or pay £22 on the night at the club)

Simply one of the most famous clubs in the world!

Lots of different rooms of banging house music, and to go into “The Box” is an aural experience that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Doors are from 10:30pm to 5:30am.

You have to be 18, show up early to guarantee getting in and you MUST have ID. Definitely no trainers allowed. Make an effort to impress with your clothes, or the doormen might not let you in.

Saturday 21st March: London Street Art Tour

In this tour you will have the chance to be with a guide who specializes in London street art and graffiti tours around the streets of Shoreditch and various other London locations. Your expert guide is a former graffiti artist Steam156, one of the leading pioneers in documenting this art form for the last 30 years worldwide. Be amazed by the work of artists such as Eine,Banksy,Roa,Connor Harrington, Paul Don Smith, Stik and many more.

Meet SGI student representative outside Old Street Station at 1:45pm, BUT there are limited places, so you must put your name on the list at reception before the end of Wednesday.
