Directions From Stansted to London

Now you have decided to study English in London with us, so as to make your arrival in the UK easier and safer, we have provided you with useful information about the different options there are to get from the airport to central London.

If you do not wish to travel on public transport, we can arrange an airport transfer for you in a private car which will pick you up at Stansted Airport arrivals hall.

Your airport transfer driver will stand at the arrivals door as you enter the international arrivals hall and he will be holding a sign with your name written on it.

Your private car will take you directly to your address in London where you will be staying.

Please note, we can only arrange airport transfers for SGI students who have booked an English course and Accommodation with SGI.

Stansted to Central London

By train

The Stansted Express train leaves Stansted Airport rail station (which is directly below the airport) at 00, 15, 30, 45 minutes every hour.

It takes just over 45 minutes to travel to London Liverpool Street Station.

From there you can get on the Central, District or Circle underground lines.

 

By bus or coach

By bus or coach

You can take a coach from Stansted airport, which is a cheaper option than the train. However, it will take you a bit more time on the coach to get to Central London.

All buses leave from Stansted Coach Station which is just outside the airport terminal, so you will not have to walk far.

The buses leave frequently to London. You can get off the buses and on to the Tube when they stop outside, Liverpool Street, Baker Street, Victoria and Stratford underground stations.

By car

By car

By car, it takes about 1 hour to drive from Stansted airport to central London. It is about 40 miles in distance.

If you are going to drive into Central London, you will probably have to pay the Congestion Charge. The Congestion Charge costs £11.50 to enter Central London every day (2015 prices) if you enter on Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm. There is no congestion charge fee on Saturdays or Sundays.

There are lots of car rental choices at Stansted airport, but it is probably better to book your hire car in advance before you arrive.

By Taxi

There is an official taxi service operator at Stansted airport called 24/7.

24/7 have a reservation desk situated in the International Arrivals hall.

You can pay by cash, debit or credit card and the total cost of the taxi journey will be quoted to you before the journey.

You should expect to pay about £100 or more for a taxi journey to Central London from the airport.
