Social programme

Our partner school in Oxford

We believe that what happens outside the classroom is as important as what happens in it.

Our social organiser is here to help you make the most of your stay.

It's important to us that our students make good use of their time outside the classroom and have fun during their stay in England. For this reason, we organise a full social programme for all our courses. This includes:

  • an activity evening at school each week (films, indoor games, quizzes etc.)
  • parties and social evenings
  • regular visits to Oxford (theatre, cinema, concerts, clubs, pubs, ice-skating etc.)
  • organised sports afternoons / evenings (there is a sports centre near the school)
  • Tennis, swimming, golf and horse-riding (all available locally)

And, of course, because the school is open every evening and at weekends, students often organise their own events (a favourite is for students of one nationality to cook some of their national dishes for the other students to try).

Extra curricula activities

Several activities such as parties, video films, international quiz nights and indoor games at the school, are free of charge, and others, such as cinema, theatre and concert visits, sports evenings and weekend excursions, involve extra cost. We do not normally charge students for transport in the school minibuses.

Full social programme with courses

Wheatley pubs also offer evening entertainment, such as jazz and karaoke nights, discos and quizzes. Students who wish to be integrated into the local community usually find plenty of opportunities to meet and socialise with local people.

Excursions

We arrange optional weekend excursions by coach (with a guide) to places of historical and cultural interest (a fee is payable for these). The average price of a full-day excursion is £27 and this includes the coach, the guide and any entrance fees to buildings included in the tour. The tours are very popular and are organised by SEA Oxford. The tour guides, Rob and Tim, are knowledgeable, informative and entertaining, and participation in these excursions enables students to find out a lot about Britain and its history and culture. The school has its own minibuses for local outings in Oxford and the surrounding area.

London by bus or train

Oxford is only 90 minutes away by coach from the centre of London. There is a 24 hour-a-day coach service from Oxford to London and return as well as a frequent and fast train service. This allows students to visit London very easily to go to shows, concerts, museums & art galleries, shops & markets, and visit all the many world-famous places of interest there.
