Hi,
As the falling leaves
drift across the pavements and parks of the city so we drift out of a
late Autumn into the cold winter months here in London. So, why is it 18 degrees centigrade
outside! Global warming I hear you say!… well anyway, as always it's a great
atmosphere for Christmas shopping!
Welcome to our
November newsletter, wherever you live, and whatever the weather is like where
you are, I hope you enjoy the contents that keep you up to date with what’s
happening at SGI.
Best Wishes!

English tip of the month |
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
English tip: English Spelling and Pronunciation It is important to understand that English is not a phonetic language. Many words are pronounced very differently from how they are written. To illustrate this point, Look at the following six words cough though thought through plough enough As you can see, they all have almost the same spellings with “ough” within each word. The problem is that they are all pronounced differently!. So to pronounce these words it doesn’t help at all to think about "ough". It would be better to think in terms of the six different sounds within the words which can be represented in writing by the same spelling. English tip: Learn the sounds of English and use a good dictionary to show you how to pronounce a new word you have come across or a word you are not sure about pronouncing. This will not only help your English pronunciation but also give you a lot more confidence when speaking English. |

What’s happening in London? |

On the 3rd November the Christmas lights were switched on together at Regent Street & Oxford Street, just near our school, in a stunning street party with celebrities like Jim Carrey and The Saturdays. One of the best places to do your Christmas shopping!

And if you're coming to London to take a course with us, you won't want to miss the Christmas movie of the year!
This year, London is turning back the clock for a traditional Christmas, as Disney releases the spectacular blockbuster movie, "A Christmas Carol".
And with events across the capital bringing to life the spirit of Christmas, London will once again stake its claim to be the home of the festive season – in a manner that would make Charles Dickens proud.

Our students speak for us |

"In spite of only doing a two-week short course of refresher teacher training, it was of great benefit to me. Hereby, I would like to express my gratitude for all the help I have received from the professional teachers in SGI during my time there."
Chunlian Piao ( China ) 2 week Overseas refresher course. July 2009
"SGI consists of nice and clever teachers (I prefer to call them my friends) who know their job fantastically. They change their teaching strategies according to your weak points. They support you to reach your goals. I hate flattery, but SGI is definitely more than just a language school, definitely."
Ardavan Danaie (Iran) General English and IELTS 2007
