Dear Student,

It seems winter is reluctant to loosen its icy grip on us as we are still shivering here in London even as we enter the month of March, when spring officially arrives. Springtime in London, we can't wait! The city comes alive with colour and foliage in the parks, gardens and window boxes and that sense of hope that emerges with the warming of the earth and our bones.

Of course the great thing about London is the fact that no matter what the weather is like there is always something to do inside where it is nice and warm! Have a look in this newsletter at some of the great social trips that have been taking place at the school. Here at SGI, we really try to make sure you are enjoy the experience of coming to London, both inside and outside the classroom.

As always we have plenty of courses to offer so I hope you enjoy this newsletter that keeps you up to date with life at SGI .

Best Wishes

Max Loach
School Director

Describing Feelings and Things

"ed" and "ing" adjectives

'My holiday was relaxing. I felt really relaxed.'

Few, but common, adjectives end in either -ed or -ing:

worried/worrying, interested/interesting, excited/exciting

'-ed' adjectives

Adjectives that end in -ed are used to describe how people feel:
'He was surprised to find that he had been upgraded to first class.'
'I was confused by the findings of the report.'
'She felt tired after working hard all day.'

 '-ing' adjectives

Adjectives that end in -ing are used to describe things and situations. Compare these example sentences to the ones above:
'Being upgraded to first class is surprising.'
The findings of this report are confusing.'
'Working hard all day is tiring.'

What's on in London in March

St Patrick's Day 2010

Everyone loves the traditional celebrations that make up St Patrick's Day. This event celebrates all things Irish, with laughter, fun and, of course, Guinness!

The exciting St Patrick's Day Parade takes place every year in London. This year it's happening on Sunday 14 March.

The St Patrick's Day Parade involves marching bands, floats, street theatre and more. All 32 Irish counties are represented, dressed in their traditional county colours, as well as London's Irish community and other Londoners. This year, keep an eye out for the eco-friendly rickshaw floats.

Head of the River Race 2010

London's Head of the River Race in March is one of the city's longest running sporting traditions.

This spring, 400 crews from around the globe will take to the waters of London's famous Thames River to compete in this historic boating event.

The Head of the River Race (HORR) was started in 1926 by Cambridge and Tideway oarsman, Steve Fairbairn. It was conceived as a way for crews to practice long rows during winter, in preparation for the summer regatta.

The annual event now sees hundreds of boats, each manned by eight men, row over the 4.25 mile (6.8km) championship course from Mortlake to Putney.

"Thanks for the given opportunity at St George International. Everything was fine. I would like to note especially the friendly atmosphere in the classroom, the high qualified teachers and the good location of the school. I hope in the future to return to SGI in order to further improve my language skills. I shall recommend your school to my friends interested in learning English."
