Dear %%first name%%,
|
At last Spring is here! Temperatures are now regularly in double figures (we reached 18C the other day), flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and the days are getting longer. A great time of year to be in London! Have a look at the 'Easter events in London' feature, as you'd expect there's loads of great things to do.
The school is as busy as ever with good numbers of students for all our courses. As always we have a lively and interesting social programme for our students... have a look below at the March social events and photos feature. Enjoy the Newsletter! |

Best Wishes

Our newly designed foreign languages site is now up and running and we feel, a little immodestly, that it looks great! Click here and decide for yourself…
SGI: in the neighbourhood of Fitzrovia; Interesting Fact no 1 (the first in a series)
As you know, SGI is based in Central London, close to Oxford Street and Regent Street. What you probably don't know is that we are actually in a neighbourhood known as Fitzrovia, a district with a wonderfully long and colourful history. Here's the first of many interesting facts about SGI's neighbourhood.
 |
The BT Tower
Fitzrovia's most famous landmark is the 'BT Tower' - You can see this glassy tall cylindrical building (opened 1966) from all over London. In its early days it used to have a revolving restaurant and an annual race up the stairs of the tower. It is now used by the national telecommunications company British Telecom ( BT) as a communications hub.
|
The BT Tower in the movies - In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry is seen flying over the tower in an old English car ( a Ford Anglia) with his good friend, Ron Weasley.

English lesson of the month
Create the perfect sentence
Students often feel the need to 'learn grammar' so that they can construct accurate sentences and use them in their speech and writing. There are many ways of doing this. Below is one way you can practise writing sentences that are accurate and meaningful.
Look at the front page of a newspaper like the Times or the Guardian. Read the headlines. Set a task for yourself by changing headlines into grammatically complete sentences. By doing this you will practise grammar, improve vocabulary and learn more about the country you are visiting!
Here is an example.
• Victoria station crime: 19 boys quizzed
If you converted the above into two complete sentences, you would say:
There was a crime at Victoria Station. (You need a verb / perhaps an article / and a preposition for a complete sentence)
Nineteen boys were quizzed... (Good practice in the passive!)
Vocabulary point: quizzed = questioned

Our students speak for us
"I had a good time at SGI school during the three weeks I was there last July. I learnt a lot of things, above all vocabulary, idioms and expressions in the lessons while at the same time the classes were funny. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, both here in London and during the booking process by internet, always quick to answer and very kind.
The Social Programme was also very helpful for people to get in touch with each other. Teachers that came with us were very friendly, talkative and nice to us."
