Spanish lesson of the month
The Spanish Alphabet and pronunciation
The Spanish alphabet has got five vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and 22 consonants. The most particular one is the letter ñ which sounds as the “gn” in lasagne.
One of the great things about the Spanish language is that it is pronounced as it is written so there are no chances of getting it wrong. Once you’ve learned the sounds you are able to read any text to perfection.
The Vowels
The sound of the vowels is always the same one.
A as a in cat
E as e in elephant
I as i in pins
O as o in Oh, oh!
U as in put
