Learning Spanish in Spain
The small town of Salamanca is a top destination for learning Spanish, and SGI's Partner School is recognized as one of the finest language schools in Spain.
The province of Salamanca is located in the southwest corner of Castile & León directly bordering Portugal. It is located about 2 and a half hours north west of Madrid. Salamanca was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known as "La Dorada" -the golden city- because of the golden glow of its sandstone buildings. It is home to two grand cathedrals, spectacular Renaissance palaces, beautiful plazas and the world's second oldest university.
The city is large enough (180.000 inhabitants) to be able to offer the advantages of a real city, but at the same time it keeps the intimacy of a village. Salamanca has played an important role in the history of the Spanish (Castilian) language and the people are said to speak the purest Spanish.
SGI's partner school in Salamanca is located in the heart of the old city centre. The building is 100 meters from the famous University of Salamanca and just two minutes away from the magnificent Plaza Mayor. The school building is a recently restored 16th-century monastery. The modern materials used for the renovation create a natural balance with the richness, style and class of previous centuries.
