Japanese lesson of the month
"Kanjy"
There are three types of writing systems (characters) in Japanese. The first one is called “Kanji” which is also known as Chinese characters. The Chinese characters were brought into Japan from China and adapted into Japanese language in ancient times as the Japanese did not have a written form.
“Kanji” is an ideogram, so each character has a meaning. The other two types of characters are “Hiragana” and “Katakana”. These two types of characters are phonogram.
These two writing systems are created by simplifying “Kanji” because “Kanji” alone was not enough to express the existing Japanese language in writing which was fundamentally different language from the Chinese language.
