Learn German In London
at St George International
What is
there to say about London that hasn't already been said? Everybody knows the
big 'stuff'….the main attractions, its immensely long and turbulent history,
its extraordinarily diverse and shifting population. This is all known, along
with the big facts….its a major global city and one of the world's largest
financial centres, (yes still, despite the credit crunch!).
Of course one thing about London that can be emphasised is the fact that
there are really a million different Londons. There is so much available to
do and see that there are always new hidden treasures to find. Here is an
example of a hidden London that is most definitely off the beaten track……
The Handel House Museum in Mayfair is a museum dedicated to the life of
George Friedrich Handel, the famous German born composer of baroque music.
The museum was in fact the home of the composer from 1723 until his death in
1759 and many of his best-known works, including many operas and oratorios,
were composed whilst he stayed in this West End house. This fascinating and
intimate museum includes paintings, prints, original manuscripts and letters
of the composer.
Of course the German spoken by Handel in the early 18th century is a very
different German from that spoken in Germany today….. and in London!
