Music in Central London – round every corner and very near SGI English school

Music in central LondonAs the Mayor of London says all the time, London is the greatest city on Earth… and he was actually born in New York! One of the great things about London is the live music on offer. There are hundreds of pubs and clubs that have live gigs and open-mic nights, where anyone can get up and play. Plus, of course, every major music act in the world ALWAYS play massive concerts in London on their world tour… it doesn’t matter what kind of music you are into (Coldplay, Kanye West, Metallica, whoever). However, you do not have to pay out your hard-earned cash to concert ticket promoters. There is live music in Central London just around every street corner. The UK capital city is alive with brilliant music – for FREE. Just take a look at some of these videos below all happening within short walking distance of SGI English school in central London. Cool stuff, right?

London Underground Central Line – Swingle Swingers

This took place on the Central Line tube, which is where lots of the SGI Accommodation Host Families live off. So, lots of the SGI students travel on this underground line every day.

Street drummer in Piccadilly Circus

Here this incredible drummer is playing in Piccadilly Circus, which is one stop away from SGI on the Bakerloo line or about 10 minutes walk. But there are also street drummers that regularly play at Oxford Circus opposite Topshop, which is 4-5 minutes walk from the school.

Blues from a busker in Islington

This up and coming musician is Jack Broadbent and he plays quite often outside Highbury and Islington tube station – just a few stops away from Oxford Circus on the Victoria line.

Classical Music in Covent Garden

You can usually find some kind of classical string quartet performing somewhere in Covent Garden. This group, ‘Oopsie Mamushka’ always play inside Covent Garden market and get the crowd clapping along. Incidentally, there are also very skilful street entertainers in Covent Garden piazza who draw massive crowds when they are performing their various juggling, magic and comedy routines.

London Underground – Acapella Flash Mob

Here’s another great flashmob singing acapella on the tube – a brilliant way to liven up the daily commute into Central London

Oxford Circus – famous rock songs – Streetcats

This band perform a lot outside NikeTown at Oxford Circus (5 minutes from the school). They usually play just as the working day is ending. So, if you go on the SGI social programme try to stop by Oxford Circus tube afterwards to catch these accomplished musicians. (BTW, this one starts slowly buts kicks off when the guitarist starts soloing at around 2 minutes in)
