English Grammar Test - "A, AN, THE" : Indefinite/Definite Article Quiz

Another English Grammar test to check your understanding and knowledge of "a, an and the", namely the indefinite and definite articles. 

There are so many rules to remember about "a/an/the" that it can be easy to make a mistake with a noun in your English sentences. Some of the questions in the multiple-choice grammar test below are quite tricky, but there is only one correct answer for each question.

Here are just some of the definite indefinite article grammar rules to help you complete the quiz.  

Some Grammar Rules for 'THE'

Use 'THE' when there is only ONE of something
the sun, the world, the moon, the equator
Don't use 'THE' with names
Susan (not The Susan), England (not the England), Prince William, London, Mount Everest, Buckingham Palace, Heathrow Airport,
Use 'THE' with SOME places
The USA, THE UK, the Thames, the Mediterranean, the Czech Republic, the Amazon, the Sahara, the West, the Middle East, the Eiffel Tower, the Natural History Museum
Don't use 'THE with common expressions
go to school/university, go to bed, go to work, on December 1st, be at/go/get home, travel by car/by bus/on foot, have sth for breakfast/lunch/dinner
Use 'THE' with some expressions
the radio, the cinema, the theatre, the sky, the countryside, the environment, the sea
Talking generally, don't use 'THE'. Be specific, use 'THE'
"I like heavy metal music." "Turn down the music, it's too loud!" "I don't watch television very much." "Remember to switch off the television when you go to bed."
